Hi! I’m Rae Metry and I am Master’s student in the Hamdoun lab. My family is from Egypt, but I was born and raised in West Los Angeles. Before my time as an undergrad, I was a fellow at the Lawrence J. Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine at USC working on KRAS protein activity in Kian Kani’s lab. I was have also done field work in sea turtle conservation in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. I am currently working on optimizing juvenile culturing methods for Lytechinus pictus to make this species of urchin a more attractive model for transgenesis . After I graduate, I intend to pursue a career as an environmental consultant and do field work for a few years.
When I am not in the lab I love to sing, play with my cats, and practice calligraphy.
